This chili has always been great during football season--and the rest of the year But I like to make it a little healthier by reducing the fat and sodium content. Sprinkle with red onion, cilantro or diced avocado (optional).
Healthier Boilermaker Tailgate Chili Ingredients
2 pounds extra-lean ground beef
1 pound chicken sausage, casings removed
3 (15 ounce) cans chili beans, drained
1 (15 ounce) can chili beans in spicy sauce
2 (28 ounce) cans diced tomatoes with juice
1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste
1 large yellow onion, chopped
3 stalks celery, chopped
1 green bell pepper, seeded and chopped
1 red bell pepper, seeded and chopped
2 green chile peppers, seeded and chopped
cup beer
cup chili powder
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon minced garlic
1 tablespoon dried oregano
2 teaspoons ground cumin
2 teaspoons hot pepper sauce (such as Tabasco)
1 teaspoon dried basil
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 teaspoon paprika
1 teaspoon white sugar
3 cups baked tortilla chips
How to Make Healthier Boilermaker Tailgate Chili
Crumble ground beef and chicken sausage into a large stock pot over medium-high heat; cook and stir until evenly browned, 10 to 12 minutes. Drain excess grease.
Pour in chili beans, spicy chili beans, diced tomatoes, and tomato paste. Add onion, celery, green bell pepper, red bell pepper, chile peppers, and beer. Season with chili powder, Worcestershire sauce, garlic, oregano, cumin, hot pepper sauce, basil, salt, ground pepper, cayenne, paprika, and sugar. Stir to blend, then cover and simmer over low heat, stirring occasionally, for at least 2 hours.
Taste and adjust salt, ground pepper, and chili powder in necessary, after 2 hours. Ladle into bowls and top with baked tortilla chips to serve.

Healthier Boilermaker Tailgate Chili Reviews
I made this recipe and the regular Boilermaker at the same time. I omitted beer and used broth instead because I dont cook with alcohol. Everyone loved both. More importantly, the healthier version doesnt taste like youre missing out. Great option Many thanks
This has now become my "go-to" Chilli. It is rich and delicious. Full of flavours that make us ask for seconds and thirds.
This is our chili recipe. Easy, healthi-er, and the fam loves it
Bland, almost inedible. I always make the normal "boilermaker" but wanted to save a few calories. When it tasted to drab I compared ingredients it literally lacks two from the other recipe: 1 tbsp of bacon and 4 beef bouillon cubes. I dont think those amount to 300 calories. I added that and like magic it was back to the old PERFECT recipe. Stick to that one folks
Made this today and by far it has been the best chili that I have ever made I used fire roasted diced tomatoes and ground turkey instead of the ground beef. Also, I added chipotle hot sauce instead of tabasco sauce. The taste is out of this world
This recipe was wonderful followed the recipe exactly but left out all meat and used dried beans instead of canned. great alternative for a vegetarian
Loved this recipe and may be my new go-to I substituted all meat with pulled chicken, used a combo of black beans, pinto beans and chickpeas (since thats what I had on-hand) added a small can of corn and used a lot of sriracha to replace anything spicy. Super tasty Gave four stars since I didnt follow recipe exactly.
Thought it tasted low calorie. It was OK. Though we had to skip half the chili powder. And it makes a lot more than 12 servings
I made this chili for Super Bowl and everyone loved it The only response I got from a few was it could use more salt, but to me it was great. I couldnt find the beans listed so I just used kidney beans and most spices were not measured to be exact as the recipe called for.
I am still getting rave reviews about this chili after serving it at a holiday get together I will definitely make it again
Super yummy whole family enjoyed it will forever use as my go to chili recipe.
Made a handful of subs, but a great base.
Love the healthy version Tastes the same as the regular boilermaker chili
This is my new "go-to" chili. I substituted all the meat for veggie crumbles added right at the end.
I made this recipe tonight for a chili contest and I one everybody thought it was the best chili theyre easy to make and its a keeper
Delish but spicy Next time Ill only use one small jalapeno and mild chili beans.
Great recipe for beginners, could half the amount of meat and double the healthy vegies and add more beer
I added twice the amount of onion and peppers, two jalapenos and used all spicy chili beans instead of the regular kind. Perfect
Got rave reviews from my guests and hubby.
This chili recipe is my go-to. Its really flavorful and healthy. I do quadruple the garlic because Im a garlic nut. Ive also switched the white sugar to brown sugar for a deeper flavor.
So,so good. I have made this several times and its always great. Ive tried other chili recipes here but this is my absolute favorite. Thanks
The stand out taste was tomato other failures here are not sauteing the onions and not using fresh garlic. Good reminder of why you should never a recipe youve never made before and serve it to guests before eating it yourself.
I have made this more than once and also the full boilermaker version. It gets rave reviews all the time, especially from those who prefer chili with a little kick. I have won prizes with it at our local chili cook off. (spices to make more chili) Lots of fun and keeps my big boys full.
Oh man this was so good. The yield kept me fed for a week and a half, no complaints
Very hearty and delicious. Honestly though I dont really care for the chicken sausage so I dont think I would add it in the future or maybe replace it with a different meat. I also didnt add some of the spices as I prefer a mild taste. Otherwise it is a fabulous recipe.
